Mr. Nelson has some explaining to do
Yes, I’ve been hiding. So here’s a quick story…
In December of 2003, my family went on a trip to Hawaii. Being the Red Sox fan I am, I was of course wearing a Sox hat almost everywhere we went. Mostly for protection from the sun, but also because it was a difficult October that year, and I still took pride in the Olde Towne team.
Shortly after we arrived at the hotel, a tall red-headed guy showed up with his wife and three daughters. His name was Jeff Nelson. Considering that Jeff had allegedly beaten up the bullpen attendant and was being charged with assault, I figured that for my own safety, I’d wear something else. (Side note: My Dad knows Jeff from when he was with the Mariners, so we ran into the guy at least once a day and made small talk. I wasn’t just being paranoid.)
Well, on the last day we were at the hotel, my Dad decided to tell Jeff how I had not been wearing the Sox hat for him. He laughed and thought it was entertaining. And thus, I took the following picture:
Jump forward to today, when I saw this article on espn.com. I don’t know how I can use this picture to blackmail Mr. Nelson, but be assured, once I find out how, I will.

I think it’s a lot more common in football then baseball to thank the team that gave you your big break. But with Jeff, damn, I don’t know
