Fourteen Innings For This?

Does everyone remember the runs expected stats I put up yesterday? Well, all those numbers go out the window when Timlin enters the game. Instead, here are the expected runs for different the different situations that Timlin faced last night:
- One out, nobody on base: 1.0
- Two outs, nobody on base: 1.0
- Two outs, runner on first: 2.0
- Two outs, runners on first and second: 3.0
Apparently Tito didn’t read my post from a few days ago when I said that it’d be better to bring in JD Drew to pitch over Timlin. Honestly, why go with Timlin? He’s officially got nothing left (unless he’s in the NL, when he could still close for a contending team. I hear the Mets need a closer…), and you’ve got Pauley, Chris Smith and Hansack still in the pen. I don’t care if they’re career minor leaguers, I’ll take unproven over proven but awful every day of the week. I guess we should just be happy that Tito waited until the 14th before bringing in Timlin instead of losing the game in the 10th. Although that doesn’t make up for being 2.5 games back in the division.

The umpires didn’t help things, but at least they were consistently bad with both TB and Boston. Strikes turned into balls and vice versa.

I understand that Tito is loyal to his players…he wants to give them a shot to drive in a run…get the big hit…I get it. But last night there was an opportunity for Tito to have his guys bunt in at least three different innings (all late) and the Sox could have scored without the benefit of a hit to win the game. I think some managers forget that bunting is a part of the game…they act like they’re allergic to bunting. We could have and should have won that game a long time before Timlin got his chance to blow it.

Timlin is a complete disaster, and is now proving it on a cosistent basis. Hansack, (or anybody) should have came in instead. I thought the Sox actually had the game, until timlin stepped out of the bullpen. wow
