Joe --

I'm not going to argue with you on most of the Sox, but in case you haven't seen it already the Pedroia question was in reference to his commercial:

All right Radar, in a few cases you're spot on, but in a few others, I might have to whack ya around a bit, rhetorically speaking.

Pedroia: it's sliders in the dirt he can't hit. It's bad technique, but he drops his left foot in the bucket and crushes high and tight heat off the Monster.

Youkilis: See BP's latest analysis on HR luck.

Lowrie: Not that much -- bone injuries like the one he had don't sap THAT much power, and he was no Big Mac before the injury anyway. Simple fact is that the Sox system is doing incredibly well drafting and developing pitching prospects (if there is such a thing) and not so well developing hitters, Lars Anderson aside.

Lugo...needs to go away, quietly, and take his Tito voodoo doll with him.

Varitek: See "Regression to the mean." He won't be among the top hitting catchers, but the chances of him being as bad as he was last year are virtually nil. On the other hand.....

Beckett: See Hudson, Tim for more info on oblique injuries. His weight had nothing to do with his performance last year; his oblique pull did.

Saito: Tommy John is elbow surgery, man.

Masterson: more valuable as BOTH anyway

Papelbon: If he wanted a long-term deal done, it would be done. He stands to make more in free agency as long as he stays healthy for the next two seasons. Risk/gain analysis. He talks dumb, but he ain't.
