He was more consistent, but I still consider "pounding the zone" to mean at least 75% strikes. For some comparison, during his 18-win season last year he thew 61% of his pitches for strikes. But nobody ever said that he "pounded the zone" back then. In his starts this season before this one he threw 63% of his pitches for strikes.

I hate it as much as anybody when he nibbles, and I was very happy with this performance, but I just think that saying that he "pounded the zone" is going a bit overboard.

He DID "pound the zone" more consistently than he usually does. His biggest problem up until now has been a consistent failure to do so as often as Beckett and Lester routinely do. Let's hope he doesn't go back to his old "nibble, nibble, nibble some more" style of pitching, OK?
